This course will prepare students for the type of reading and writing skills that are required within the professional world. Students will read, discuss and analyze numerous types of literature from fiction, nonfiction and dramatic units. The focus of study will emphasize an analytical approach to literature and its various techniques and devices. The composition segment will feature informative and persuasive style writing. A great emphasis of study will be placed on mastering the rules of the English language. Students will be expected to possess an ambitious work ethic in an effort to develop and/or enhance effective time-management, communication and organizational skills. Prerequisites: Students earned at least a 90% final course average in ELA 9 and/or teacher recommendation.
