Jr/Sr High Internship
The Jeannette Senior High School Internship Program provides opportunities for seniors to receive first-hand experience that extends beyond the classroom and into the workforce. Students will be able to determine their interest level in certain career fields, get feedback from professionals regarding their strengths and weaknesses, further their education and begin to build a resume. Through actual work experience, the Internship program is designed to provide students with the skills that are required in today’s workforce and the potential to make key contacts for future networking.
The Internship Program also will assist students in bridging the gap between school and work by providing support, counseling, and evaluation through a scheduled internship class during the school day. Students will complete weekly assignments and write reflections throughout the course. The internship advisor will work with each student and their internship supervisor to maximize the student’s experience, provide feedback, and assist them with communicating their learned skills for future interviews. At the end of the internship, students will receive a final evaluation from their internship supervisor and present it to their class to showcase their learning experience.
Seniors will complete their morning classes followed by their internship in the afternoon. Students may complete two semester internships at the same site or choose a different site during the second semester. An internship will last a full semester and students will earn 1.5 credits/per internship toward graduation. In order to earn up to 1.5 credits per semester, students must present a resume to the site supervisor, interview, complete a minimum of 10 hours a week, and successful completion of coursework in their scheduled internship class.
We are currently looking for additional businesses and opportunities for our program. If you are interested in partnering with Jeannette City School District or have any questions regarding the program, please contact Joe Dlugos, Senior Internship Coordinator. Thank you for your consideration.
