Marching Band and Concert Band - The band program is divided into two parts: the marching band and the concert band. Marching Band activities include participation at athletic events and parades. Marching techniques and the playing of music suitable for the occasion are stressed. The time involved is the first twelve weeks of the school calendar and all community parades throughout the year. Concert Band offers each student the opportunity to perform music of a very wide nature. Playing techniques, theory, and music appreciation are areas that receive added attention. Performances consist of seasonal concerts along with the spring festival. Different ensembles, such as brass and woodwind groups, are an outgrowth of the concert band. Members of the colorguard and drum line are special units that perform with the marching band. They are selected by try-out performances. *Requires some evening and weekend rehearsals and performances including graduation at the end of the school year.
