NHS SELECTION PROCESS:

Eligibility

  1. Candidates eligible for election must be in the second semester of their eleventh and twelfth grade years.
  2. Candidates must have had an overall GPA of a least 3.8 (95%) at the conclusion on the second quartile of the current school year.  If a student’s GPA was not 3.8 at that time, but rises to 3.8 (95%) later in the year, the student does not automatically become a member.  Juniors can reapply during their senior year.
  3. Candidates must be taking at least two “weighted courses” during the second semester of the current year.  If the student drops either of theses courses, the NHS membership ceases.
  4. Upon meeting the grade level, GPA standards, and the “weighted” courses requirements, candidates shall then be considered for induction based on service, leadership, citizenship, and character.

Prior to selection, the following shall occur:

  1. Students’ academic records shall be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility.
  2. Students who are eligible scholastically (“candidates”) shall be notified and asked to complete and submit within seven (7) days the Student Information Form for further consideration for selection.
  3. The faculty shall be requested to evaluate candidates determined to be scholastically eligible using the official evaluation form provided by the chapter adviser.
  4. The Faculty Council shall review the Student Information Form and faculty evaluations in order to determine membership.  All decisions made by the Faculty Council concerning the selection and non-selection of candidates are final and are not subject to appeal.
