WIRC

The Westmoreland Interscholastic Reading Competition (WIRC) is an annual reading competition that brings students from across Westmoreland County together to celebrate reading, teamwork, and a love of literature. Participating students read from a list of 30 titles, carefully selected by Westmoreland County librarians to represent a variety of genres, authors, and perspectives.

At the competition, teams put their knowledge to the test by answering trivia questions about the books on the reading list. Students are challenged to remember characters, plot details, settings, events, and other important aspects of the books they've read.

WIRC encourages students to read widely, discover new books, work collaboratively, and challenge themselves while connecting with other student readers from throughout the county. Whether students are longtime book lovers or discovering new favorite authors, WIRC provides an exciting opportunity to turn reading into a team competition!
